Bad Films Reviewed by Videogum But Not for the Hunt for the Worst Movie of All Time

Essentially, this is a list of the negative reviews of films as covered by Videogum for everything except the Worst Movie of All Time. Please write in the comments if there are films I’ve missed.

The WMOAT is a series by Videogum in which there is a search for the worst film of all time, at least as stipulated by some rules. The complete list of films covered by the WMOAT can be seen here: http://mobfd.blogspot.com/2010/11/worst-movie-of-all-time-complete-list.html

However, on occasion Videogum will review a bad film outside of the WMOAT. I’ve listed the films below. Technically, these are films still eligible for the WMOAT, but they are much less likely to be covered in both.

Haters Gonna Hate: Reality Bites edition

I suppose I knew that nominating a movie like Reality Bites would get me called on the carpet, so it seems inevitable that I would be writing a defense of my hatred. Full disclosure: my hatred was born in an association with one of the absolute worst human beings I’ve ever had the displeasure of knowing, who held as his personal hero one Troy Dyer, the hobo at the heart of this little cinematic gem. Not that I ever loved the movie, but once I became disgusted with Troy the veil was lifted, and I was able to see the movie for what it really was. And what is it? So glad you asked. Come window-shopping down the avenue of horrors with me, won’t you?

The Worst Movie of All Time is a recurring Monday feature on Videogum.com. In it, Videogum Editor Gabe Delahaye seeks out week after week the worst movie of all time. The criteria are as follows:

It cannot be intentionally horrible.

It must have at least one A- or B-list movie star in it. (No “outsider art.”)

It cannot be Glitter. (Or Crossroads.)

It has to have had a theatrical release.

It must be available on Netflix.

No matter how bad the movie, it cannot be based on a popular superhero.

No musicals.

No Robin Williams movies (Note: In a lead role. Supporting roles will be considered on a case by case basis)

Only one Nicolas Cage movie per “round.”

No children’s movies.

Gabe is the boss.
