Announcing the Monster Fit Club

Everyone knows that Monsters are the sexiest people on the Internet. Some of us want to be sexier and some of us want to stay sexy. Now there is a place to make that happen. We like to call it the Monster Fit Club!!!

MFC will meet here every Monday to report on our weight loss, seek new tips and most importantly support and motivate each other.

This is what you need to do:

1.) Identify the motivation for your weight loss (Looking hot, high school reunion, doing 50 push ups, running a 5k, etc.).
2.) Determine your goal. (My initial goal is to lose 20 lbs., maybe more once I reach this!)
3.) If you need to, join a gym or buy some workout DVDs.
4.) Go to the grocery and get some healthy food. Lots of fruits and veggies, y'all. Don't forget the fiber too!

I enjoy working out, but I have fallen off the wagon over the past year, and I am looking to get back in shape again. For me, I have several motivators:
1.) Fitting into my cute skinny clothes again.
2.) The Las Vegas Monster Meet Up (Pinkgum)
3.) I used to run 6 miles daily, and I want to do that again!

This is my diet/exercise plan, which you can follow, or you can make up your own!

Diet: I am going to start off by doing The 4 Day Diet. I have done this diet before, and I find that it is a great way to get rid of cravings. It is really hard for the first few days, but it gets better! It only lasts for 28 days, so once I complete it, I am going to go into counting calories. You can read some tips on how to count calories here. Remember, counting calories is the best way to lose weight. It may be a little tedious at first, but you get used to it! And it works!

Exercise: I am going to work out 5 days a week. I have a treadmill at home, so 3 days a week, I am going to run/walk on the treadmill for 45 minutes followed by the 15 min DVD of P90X's ab routine. The other 2 days a week, I will do Carmen Electra's Fit to Strip DVD that was a 30 minute full body workout. (This workout is really good, ladies!!!)

Another recommendation: When I got married, I lost a shitload of weight by counting calories and doing Bridal Bootcamp. You start off by doing four 1 hour workouts a week, which are somewhat challenging, but it works!

You don't have to report your actual weight if you don't want to, but feel free to do that if you are comfortable! You can just tell us your progress. Such as, "I lost 2 lbs. this week!"

We officially start Monday, January 3rd (but you can start anytime you want). This is open to male and female monsters.

Make sure to post your goal and motivators in the comments! If you have any suggestions, please let me know in the comments also.

DISCLAIMER: As always, please consult with a doctor before starting any diet or weight loss program. MOBFD is not responsible for you having a heart attack or anything. DEAL WITH IT!

  1. This is great :D
I shall join in on this wonderful quest for better health, skinny jeans, and just plain lookin' good.

My goal is to be able to go to the beach this summer and do something i haven't done in at least 9 years.... TAKE OFF MY SHIRT IN PUBLIC (without feeling gross)

So, this week i shall figure out my weight loss goal and formulate a plan of action to get there. So until then, keep it real y'all!

  2. Okay Nightmare, you convinced me. I'll go ahead and say I'd like to lose 10 lbs with an option for more. That would put me at my mid-college weight when I was vegan and walking everywhere.

I guess my motivator would be to be able to dance for a full night without getting out of breath and for my body to not interfere with my clothes in weird ways. Last year I lost a bunch of weight by getting food poisoning closely followed by a stomach virus, but I'd rather not go down that path again. I'll just stick to trying to avoid casually snacking and eating more veggies and brown rice.

  3. I will check in around mid-February when I am done with my exclusive breastfeeding! I will be giving babby some real food then and will have a little more time to concentrate on myself :)

  4. I'd like to lose about thirty pounds, more or less (very concrete goal, Bethany).

I want to be a good health role model for my son, because I didn't get that growing up and it wasn't a good thing. I would like to fit into my smaller size clothes that are so gorgeous and lovely, and I would like to look even MORE adorable then I do now (that is A LOT of adorable, for those you keeping track). Also: health benefits, increased self-confidence and self-esteem, and relieving symptoms of both depression and fibromyalgia.

  5. I'm really a "lurker" at Videogum, I don't comment much but I "upvote" all you guys all the time. I just wanted to tell mtnsbeyondmts, that of all the times i wish there was an "upvote" function on this blog, this is the one time i wanted it the most.

  6. You guys, I am so excited! Healthy Monsters!!!!

  7. This is an awesome idea and I love it. I'll probably not be an active participant as I'm pretty happy doing my own thing.

That said, along with my MANY other fabulous attributes, I happen to be certified as a personal trainer. I don't actively train people (day job) but I'm happy to offer advice to anyone who needs it. DM my Twitter if you need non-Medical advice.

  8. I am in really bad shape and have recently been lamenting my lack of motivation to fix this. Perfect!

I'd like to lose 15 pounds, my motivation being able to run 6 miles again and wear all my old clothes, which are very cute. My roommate is a marathon runner, so she has lots of motivation and workout DVDs, so I'll probably try to mooch of her for as long as possible.

Viva la fruits and veggies and friendly internet support! I'm very excited about this, y'all!

  9. I'm most definitely in.

I'm a former marathoner, sidelined a little over a year after a pretty serious injury. The only way I've been able to live with the pain is to adopt a totally sedentary lifestyle. As you can imagine, the weight came on pretty fast. Twenty pounds in 12 months. My pajamas and winter coat are too small. Ugh.

I've been waiting for my insurance benefits to reset in 2011 to try physical therapy again, this time with a scary spinal epidural shot thingy first. My doctor is optimistic that I can be active again. I start Jan 5.

I addition to losing those 20 pounds, I'd like to lose another 20 before my wedding this fall. That will make me very skinny and I'm not sure it's possible. We'll see. I want to make sure 20lb are gone before I shop for a dress, probably around mid March. A tall order, but I'm up for the challenge.

  10. I am in. I lost a lot of weight this summer because I was working out a lot, but then Halloween and Christmas brought candy...FitGum will be a good motivator. Skinny jeans, here I come!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Thanks for the very nice comment, Coach! I appreciate it.

Shell, I'm so sorry to hear about your injury. That sounds awful and very scary, especially with having to have an epidural. Please keep us updated on how things are going for you.

  12. I'm in! I already have a bunch of resolutions ready to keep and will be more determined if I actually tell people about them!
I already lost a lot of weight this past year and half my clothes don't fit right so before I go shopping for a whole new wardrobe I'd like to drop another size or so :) Most of all I just want to get rid of all the fast food and junk in my life so I stop craving it and learn to eat healthier before my metabolism vanishes
I play roller derby so I've always got that as exercise. I used to run cross country so I'd like to be able to run more than a mile again. And I think I have an old Jillian Michaels workout DVD that I can do when I don't have the time to run.

  13. I would like to participate.

    1) My motivation is that I want to be healthy and look good. I want ladies and dudes both to think I'm hott.

2)My immediate goal is to eliminate my gut and have a well defined chin. I also hope to build some muscle mass, so a weight goal might not be the best metric.

I vow to begin on January 3.

Thanks for the motivation, Ms. Nightmare!

  14. Starting on Monday, I will do this too, as I need to slim down for my wedding in May.

In the meantime: *clap clap* I demand another course of X-Mas Cookies!

  15. -my goal is to lose 5 lbs. my motivation? it's winter and none of my jeans fit so i can only do leggings.
-i DO own carmen electra's fit to strip (gentlemen...), but i'm going to DVR fit tv yoga workouts and close all my blinds and light candles and lock my animals in the bedroom and focus on me. ME! also, i need to take my new dog on long walks because he is a chubby bunny (dog).
i will say (get ready to be J!) that a vacation in hawaii is the best weight-loss plan. hiking and snorkeling all day while eating poke at every meal is THE BEST, so let's just all move here.

  16. I'm in as well
My goal is to lose 50 pounds or more by January 1st 2012. I will begin completely on January 12th of this year.

My motivation is that my favorite thing to do in the whole world is swim. I don't feel comfortable being shirtless in front of friends or the public anymore so it robs me of this ability. It will also be helpful in treating my depression and prevent health problems in the future.

On January 12th I will start exercising a minimum of 3 days a week and I will completely cut out my 3 favorite things: cheese, sugar, and beer.

ive done it before and I can do it again. I'll keep ya posted on the process

  17. I'm goint to keep following these posts. Although I've lost 40 pounds since summer 2009, I haven't lost anything since this summer and I really want to lose those last 15-20 pounds (or get ripped, whichever comes first). Because while I'm in a much better shape, I'm still not in a good shape and want to be able to run for longer periods of time.

I will start as of now (why wait, right?) and will try to keep you posted on the progress

  18. Count me in! I'm sick of being a fat guy. I'd like to get healthier this year, as I am turning 30 years old (buh). My birthday is in June and I'm also thinking of running (or at least walking swiftly) Bay 2 Breakers in may.

  19. I find your views intriguing and would like to subscribe to your cheeseletter. I mean newsbutter. I mean newsletter.

I would like to lose 5-10% bodyfat and be able to do ten pullups/chinups by sometime this winter, and lose enough weight that my inner thighs don't touch so I can wear awesome corduroy slacks.

I will be going to the gym, playing DDR, and drinking more water to accomplish this. If anyone lives near Northampton, MA and wants to do indoor rockclimbing, send me a message on AIM at pandabearboners.

  20. Count me in too! I've got some problem areas that I always curse during mirror time, so I'd like to tighten those up--especially since there is an upcoming beach vacation in April, eek!

I think I'd like to lose ten pounds, but more is obviously cool, too. I get bored verrrrry easily, so I'll be switching things up quite a bit (but might need to devise a schedule). I'm investing right now in Jillian Michaels DVDs, and I will alternate with a vintage Abs of Steel VHS tapes (VHS!!) and a bellydancing DVD. I already do yoga once a week and would love to get a second day in there. I'm aiming for at least three workout days per week.

I'm vegetarian and am pretty much vegan, so on weak-willed days when I am craving cheese, I might be calling on you monsters!

  21. I would like to lose 30 pounds in as much time as it takes to lose 30 pounds so that I can shop for clothes at any store in the whole world!

    Steps in my development plan:
1 - use my gym membership.
    2 - take my vitamins
3 - smoothie for breakfast, salad for lunch, interesting new recipes for dinner!

    See you Monday!

  22. So, so late to this, but I'm also throwing my hat in the gauntlet (that's how the saying goes, right?) that is Monster Fit Club.

My initial goal is to lose 20 lbs in the next month or month and a half, and my ultimate goal is to lose 80 lbs by the end of this year. I've got some Billy Blanks DVDs and once I get some spending money, I'll invest in a yoga mat and DVD, as well as some of the workout videos y'all have recommended.

I've struggled with my weight for most of my young life, but it got really out of control after a great bout of "depression" (I use quotes since I was not formally diagnosed) my first year of college. I ballooned rather quickly in weight, my self-esteem/sense of self-worth have been down the drain since. Now that I'm 20, I want to lose the weight not only to get healthy, but to improve the way I perceive myself. I'm fairly certain I'm awesome, but I want everyone (especially the menfolk) to see how awesome I am both inside and out.

  23. I'm glad we're doing this! I would like to lose 50 pounds by the end of July, because that is when my 10 year high school reunion is, but also health, I guess.
I'm going to need mega motivation, because I already get up for work at six in the morning and am going to force myself to get up even earlier to work out. For awhile when I was jobless I was doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred and I loved it. It made a huge difference in just a couple weeks and I felt great AND it's only 20 minutes. I'll also be using the MyFitnessPal app on my Iphone to count calories, because it is awesome. Also, I'll be throwing some pilates into the mix for when I get home and relax at the end of the night. Also jump rope, because I bought a jump rope awhile ago and haven't used it yet and it'll be good cardio, because I absolutely hate running.

  24. oh man... i have to do this. i'm the worst accountabilibuddy, i always lose motivation and slack off. so hopefully commenting here will help me out!

long-term goal: lose 50 lbs. 50 would bring me back to my lowest weight. while at the time i thought i should lose more, looking back that was the best weight for me.

short-term goal: lose 5 lbs in january. if i look at it realistically, i only have to lose 5 lbs ten times. that seems not so bad!

i have some exercise aids at home (bands, weights, etc.) but i really need to start doing little morning hikes. it's hard because the park i hike in isn't open/safe after the sun goes down, so i have to get my act together and actually get up early to do this. i'll probably grab an app as well, as they are helpful in holding you accountable. also! i might try the "Couch 2 5k" app, just to have a program: http://c25kapp.com. i'm also looking at buying a new cooking book or two to help me get creative with food.

  25. My good friend Lengli introduced me to y'all and I'm hoping that joining in will provide me the motivation to get this done!

I would like to lose 25 lbs by the end of the year. I would also like to be able to climb Mt. Whitney (the hard route, not the hike) in August with my husband. He's just about the fittest person I've ever seen, so it would also be nice to feel like equals on a fitness level.

I aim to do something fitness related a minimum of 4 days a week. When it stops raining, I'll go back to hiking. When I can't do that, I'll either use the treadmill and some weights or mix it up with some exercise DVDs. I'd also really like to join the local climbing gym.

I'm going to do what seems to have worked for me before as far food is concerned. I lost about 100 lbs (many years ago!) eating a low fat diet: no ice-cream, no cheese, and making sure my fat was kept to 25 grams a day. It requires a bit of planning, but nothing crazy and it's not a huuuuuge hardship.

    Good luck to everybody!

  26. I'm a bit more of a lurker on Videogum than a commenter, but I really like the idea of joining this with you guys.

My initial goal is 20lbs, which puts me back at my lowest weight in my adult life (which I wasn't totally happy with at the time...what an idiot). I'd like to be at least 10 lbs thinner for my 25th birthday in March, and then reach my goal weight by May, which is right before my trip to the Greek Isles (beach + hot Greek Men = world's best motivation) in June. After that, we'll see if I still feel that I want to tone more or lose another 10 lbs.

I plan on doing this by avoiding buying lunch at work and exercising at least 3 days a week for now. I already made a big pot of vegetable soup for the week last night and I made some alternative veggie and tofu dishes in case I crave more variety. I like what someone said about smoothies for breakfast. I'm going to do some shopping for fruit tomorrow and try that. I always skip breakfast and just have coffee until lunch, but I know that I'm only hurting my metabolism by doing that. I'm going to try to stay as far away from refined sugar and carbs as possible.

As far as exercise, I will be doing some interval training for an hour 2 days a week, incorporating calisthenics as well, and swimming laps for an hour 1 day a week. Once I'm on a consistent routine, I will add another day of cardio.

I really just want to be able to go shopping without letting my body get in the way. I want to go out on the weekends and not feel like the hipster chicks are hotter than me. Oh yeah, and I want to be healthy too.

See you guys next week! Good luck monsters!

  27. I'm also late to this but I want to be a real monster (not just the one I dream about being) so I'm totally in!

    My goals:

    1) Finish the Couch 2 5k program (I'm on week 8 of 9!) and actually run a 5k.

    2) Buy a new yoga mat and complete Yoga Journal's 21-day Yoga Challenge (preferably once I finish C25k)

    3) Lose at least 10 pounds...and place in the top 3 of my office version of The Biggest Loser.
