Monster Fit Club: Week Four

Time is flying by. I can't believe we are already at week four! It seems like everyone is staying motivated and doing really well. I am so proud of my Monsters!

This week I lost 1 lb. (7.5 lbs total). I am now 12.5 lbs. away from my goal of 20lb. total weight loss.

I have noticed that my jeans are fitting better and that I am getting stronger. I am able to keep up better with my P90X abs DVD and I running 2 1/2 miles now.

Thanks for all the suggestions on TV viewing last week. I have discovered that I can watch Netflix streaming on my iPhone from the treadmill. Only problem is when I watched Friday Night Lights that I started crying while I was running! Needless to say, my crying made it difficult to run. That was not a good look, you guys!

I came across an article on Self.com about snacking alternatives. Instead of bowl of ice cream or a bag a chips, try some of these. Also, here are a few of the foods I like to snack on (not counting fruits and veggies):

Fage Non-fat Plain Greek Yogurt (90 Calories, 15 g protein)
Quaker Fiber & Omega-3 Dark Chocolate Chunk Granola Bar (120 Calories, 9 g Fiber, 2 g Protein) Dove Dark Chocolate Promises, 2 pcs. (115 Calories)
Edy's Frozen Lime Bars (80 Calories)

So how did you do this week?! Put your progress and suggestions in the comments and let's discuss!

  1. Since the start I've lost 3 lbs., so that's one a week, which is less than I wanted, but given the fact that in those three weeks I've had a lot of New Year's receptions, birthdays, dinners with friends, concerts and went to a festival I would say its pretty decent. Now that all that shit is over with and hopefully hockey practice is on again, hopefully I can keep improving.

And while I already mentioned it in the Check In last week, everyone who has problems with the food end of Fit Club should check out the BBC series Truth About Food. Did you know low-fat dairy helps you excrete more fat? Science!

  2. I slowed down this week after a very fast start. I weigh one pound more now than I did last Monday, but I won't call it "gained." I've stuck to my diet all week with one minor oopsy on Saturday. I'm now 9/40.

As for working out, I'm following Bridal Bootcamp, a book Nightmare recommended. It has three different strength training workouts per week that change as your wedding date gets closer plus four days of cardio per week. I'm pretty sore! My back feels, eh, ok. Still doing PT.

Are there any other lazy Monsters out there that live in the vicinity of a Trader Joes? If so, get thee to the frozen food section. So many cheap, easy, healthy meals to choose from.

In conclusion, I feel GREAT! I look slightly better! My coat zips up easier! YES!

  3. I've lost another pound so my total now is around 3 pounds. I do think I've gained a lot of muscle already though, mainly in my legs since I still don't have any upper body strength.

Since school started I've been able to drag a friend with me and I've been going on the stairmaster for 20 minutes and the treadmill for 30. I want to add more machines to that rotation, like the elliptical and some of the arm weight machines. If I can plan out my trips to the gym on different days I'll figure out an actual schedule. Plus, on the days I haven't been to the gym I've been going to 3 hour practices so god only knows how much of a workout that is.

I'm still eating a mix between good and bad. I've limited myself to one soda a day and have gotten to the point again where I can't even finish a soda. And when I do breakdown for fast food I've been going with whatever semi-healthier options they have.

I am still feeling pretty good about myself and I feel like I look a bit better. So far so good!

  4. Just half a pound this week (5.5 total)...but I'm noticing a change in body shape and better fitting clothes. So I'll take it.

We've had snow being constantly dumped on us since fit club started so my schedule is constantly being interrupted by shoveling (but I guess that's exercise too).

I had a pretty good night out this weekend that I expect to wreak some havoc on my progress. I will echo that myfitnesspal.com was a great motivator in getting me back on track and letting me know how much extra work I'll have to sprinkle in this week to make up for it. So thanks to all who promoted that site!

  5. Not the best week for food for me--I had a friend in town to visit, so we went out to dinner a few times (though when inputting the meals into MyFitnessPal, I found that I actually did quite a bit better than I was expecting). I had a cheese grits gorgefest yesterday, but looking back, I WOULDN'T HAVE DONE A THING DIFFERENTLY.

I still managed to lose a half inch off my waist, an inch off my hips, and two inches off my midsection, yeah!! I'm noticing a difference in my silhouette and clothes are looking better on already. In general, I'm feeling strong and fit, so I'm pretty stoked.

My ten-minute kickboxing video that I found on Netflix last week inspired me to sign up for a Tae Kwon Do class, so I start that on Wednesday. I did a very teensy bit of karate back in high school and really loved it, so I'm excited to start back--especially since there's a very definite progression as you move through the different belt colors (which I need, because without these mini goals, I tend to get bored).

Sounds like everyone is doing a super job--VG monsters rock!

  6. I finished the Couch to 5k program this week, which means I can jog for 30 minutes without stopping and/or dying which is a first for me. And tonight I'm going to start the 21 day yoga challenge, so I'm looking forward to that.

Unfortunately we got a new, digital scale at work for our 'Biggest Loser' weigh ins and it added an extra 6lbs to my weight. A little upsetting. On the upside, I'm really loving the way my legs are looking. :)

  7. I guess I'll jump in to the fit club! I bike literally everywhere during warm months, so I stay in pretty good shape, but I gain weight EVERY SINGLE WINTER. So my main goal is to just... not do that.

I started jogging on my treadmill last month mainly to stave off depression, not really for weight loss because the winter lbs haven't crept up QUITE yet, but I weighed myself yesterday, and I've lost 4lbs.

    So there's that.
