Monster Fit Club: Week One check in

Hi.
Welcome to the "Monster Fit Club Check In". In this column I will try and motivate you kids for the "Monster Fit Club" that Mrs. Nightmare has been so kind to put together. If you have some movies, stories, images that inspire you, send them to me and I will post & credit you here. By the way, this isn't the place for your weigh ins and diet tips, send those to Mrs. Nightmare.

Let me start this off by saying consult a doctor. Not to alarm you, but to inform you. In fact if you are thinking of doing this, the chances that the doctor encourages you to do it are pretty high.
A lot of times being overweight or unhealthy has more to do with our environment or habits than anything else, hopefully we can help each other change these.

Do not be discouraged if you don't lose weight right away. Chances are that if you are starting a new exercise regimen, you will gain some muscle. Remember muscle weighs more than fat. Muscle also burns more fat, so you will be glad for this in the long run.
looking at some of your comments I can tell that your expectations are pretty ambitious. That's not a bad thing. Not at all, but I'd hate for you guys to get discouraged if you don't get immediate results. The fact is that, contrary to what Television tells us, most people don't lose 100 pounds in 2 months. Not without the use of goofballs at least. Sure, there are rare cases but those people have access to personal trainers, nutritionists, countless amount of time. If you are not one of these people, it's not going to be as easy. But just because it might be hard does not mean that it is not worth it.

Keep yourself focused. Exercising is foremost about health, YOUR health. Maybe you can't run the 40 in 4.2, maybe your body doesn't look like one of the Kardashians (or whatever teeny bopper singstar is popular nowadays)
, maybe you lost one pound this week instead of two. The point is: YOU ARE DOING THIS FOR YOU. Think about that next time you are deciding whether to skip a work out. Don't think about how you are going to look, think about how this is good for you. Say: "This is good for me". Repeat this, make it your mantra. Believe it, earn it, own it. Shoot, it doesn't even have to be this, make up your own. Make one of your hipster kid mantras, I don't care, whatever motivates you.

Sincerely,

Yourhighschoolcoach

PS. I would not have agreed to do this if I did not believe this whole thing was not a positive. I commend all the participants already enrolled. I'm not going to tell you to join, but how can it hurt? If you are shy about posting your weight, motivation or expectations with your Videogum name, I would suggest you post anonymously.

  4. Thanks Coach!

I started out my the week getting sick with a nasty cold, calling in sick for work and comforting myself with pizza and beer last night.

    So....good start!

But I'm feeling well now and plan on doing some easy cardio tonight to get the blood pumping.

    Thanks for the motivation!
