Monster Fit Club: Week Ten

I continue into this week being so tired, you guys. I forgot to prep this post last night, and then I overslept today. Now, I have to go to work in a few hours, and I don't really have anything planned to talk about this week. I am going to be honest with you, I am winging it today. I am sure none of you care though! So let's weigh-in!!!!

This week I lost 0 lbs. I have a 13 lbs. total loss. I am 7 lbs. away from my 20 lb. goal.

I have such a dissappointing weigh-in this week, and I am not sure where I went wrong. Technically, I lost 0.4 lbs, but that is so measly that I don't even want to count it. I followed my calorie plan everyday except for Friday when I went out to eat with The Narrator. I was good all week though, and I didn't eat that much on Friday. So I really don't know!

Anywho, I started P90X last week. I ran on the treadmill in the beginning of the week and then started P90X on Thursday. I haven't gotten through all the workouts yet because on Saturday I woke up so sore that I could barely move! I forgot how challenging it really is, but it is awesome. Today, I will be starting workout #3 on week one. Wish me luck!

Also, McEllen, I just read your post in last week's MFC today. My suggestion as far as exercise (keep in mind, I am no expert!) is to maybe try swimming since you have a foot injury. It's really great cardio, and will keep you off the foot!

So how did you do this week? Put your comments and suggestions in the comments and let's discuss!

New? Make sure to tell us your goals and motivations. Good luck!

  1. I'm not really sure how this Fit Club deelie works, but I think this fits in: I recently resolved to run a half-marathon in 2 months time. The last organized run I did was, I think, 2.5k in grade 8. The big question is: how far into the race will I void my bowels? Stay tuned to find out.

  2. I ran the first long run (10 miles) and i am out of shape. my mileage this week is 3, 7, 4 & 15. We'll see how i feel towards the end of the week. I might have to bow out, but I will keep training irregardless.

  3. I'll cut to the chase: I avoided the traps I thought I would encounter and managed to lose 2.9 lbs this week for a total of 14.3 since the New Year. Not sure how, I didn't really push that hard this week, so I was extra excited when I saw the scale. had to check it three times to see if it was right.

I was doing the calculations and since I have started my weight loss in the summer of '09, I have lost over 50 lbs (52.4 to be exact). If anyone is interested, I could write something up about my journey, maybe it could benefit others. Or not.

  4. I started P90X, but then realized that you can't really do P90X on a ketogenic diet (maybe on a CKD, but I am not about to do that to my system). So anyway, I broke my diet and am getting out of ketosis so that I can start P90 as a precursor to P90X. My friend gave me P90 because he didn't want me to injure myself by being physically unprepared for P90X.

I lost 20lbs on the ketogenic diet, but I expect to gain about 5lbs back because breaking that diet usually has a insulin resistance backlash. I'm starting P90 today, and will move up to P90X in about a month.

  5. I'm still plugging along here, but my body has started to protest the 5-6 day/week high-impact workout schedule (and getting kicked around by black belts in my tae kwon do class). Mostly, my knees have begun to revolt, to the point where I was just an angry angry girl last week. Being sore for over a week is not a happy thing.

Upon the advice of one of my colleagues, I bought some protein powder and have been drinking a shake a day to combat the soreness. I also went on a total Icy Hot bender (OMGGGG YOU GUYSSSS ICY HOT IS THE SHIZ) and got stuff to wrap my knee. The anger is gone, the knees are still a bit tender, but I'm hanging in.

Oh, dude, and I have triceps!! I hope I don't turn into Madonna any time soon.

  6. Xave, that totes counts. Keep us updated on the poop situation.

Anchor, I would love to read something about your journey! Please post!

  7. I also started P90x last week. I'm on workout #4 and it is super intense. I'm not sure how many pounds I lost this week because I don't own a scale, but I know that I FEEL better so that is good.

  8. Since Friday I have cut all junk food out of my diet and have been drinking only water. I don't have much in the way of vegetables at my house right now, so I've been eating oatmeal with cinnamon & almonds for breakfast, tuna & an egg with some salsa and pita bread for dinner. So far I have lost 2.5 lbs. Woo! I did, or should say attempted to do, a 30 minute core workout video from my On Demand videos. It really showed me how little I'm actually able to do without my feet, but I woke up feelin wonderfully sore in the core this morning.

  9. I, like Nightmare, won't count my tiny .2 lb weight loss this week and call it even. I'm still 19 pounds down since the day after Christmas.

I have two "challenges" this week, a girls night on Wednesday and a St Patrick's Day party on Saturday. I plan to hold back on the booze Wednesday and hold back on the food Saturday. Also, get in a few more workouts.

  10. So I've been keeping up with MFC but haven't really subscribed to it. But I am going to starting NOW so you guys will kick my ass in your asskicking kickass ways that you have been kicking your own asses.

I haven't run in over two weeks, which is super bad because I have to be able to run 5 miles on April 14 (Shamrock Shuffle!) and there's no way I can do that. Five miles is a long way! Anyway if anyone has tips on how to get endurance up (and tips on how to get over a cold) I'd be much obliged.

  11. So, I've been absent for about a month or so because I've had to deal with a physical health issue that impacted my weight loss. But it's now resolved and, after a recent bout with the flu, I am ready to get back on track!

I started a "Biggest Loser"-type competition at my office, and this is helping me keep my motivation. We weigh in on Wednesdays, so that's when I'll post my weight loss. Last week I lost 2.5 pounds, but I'm not optimistic about this week since my routine was disrupted by a sick household.

I'm getting back to eating better and exercising more frequently. I have TWO dinner dates with friends this week, but I'm not terribly concerned about what I'll eat (being broke helps in that salads, soups, and appetizers are usually the cheapest menu items).

  12. GP, I know your race is in 3 weeks and it is 5 miles, but maybe this will help a little bit:

This is a plan to run a 5k in 2 months time.

  13. I keep obsessing over the fact that the last time I looked better and was told so by others, was 2 years ago and I was walking to & from work (1 hr each way), working all day, eating a no-junk-food-ever diet, and doing other exercises on top of that. Now I am sedentary as can be & not working. It's keeping me up at night. Ugh

  14. @thisismynightmare: Alright, I'll write something up in the next few days. Should I post it myself or pass it on to you for an upcoming installment of MFC?

@McEllen: Don't. If there's one thing I've learned through all of this, it's that you can't stay focused on the past. I even tore up some old pictures of myself, just to remind myself that isn't me any more. And you shouldn't let yourself be guided by another lifestyle that honestly sounds equally unhealthy. Find out what works for you now.

@ everyone: Nice hustle, team! Keep at it, focus on your goals.

  15. Anchor, you can go ahead and post it yourself, just add a Monster Fit Club tag!

McEllen, I know trying to get in shape can be an extremely daunting task, especially when you are just starting. Just take it one day or one week at a time. Set small goals, and as Anchor said, find out what works for you. With your injury, it might be a great time to find a new workout! Talk to your doctor and see if they have any recommendations for exercise for you. As I said in the post, think about swimming...or maybe biking would work too. Don't get discouraged. You can do this!
