Monster Fit Club: Week Two

You guys, I can't tell you how excited I am when I read all your comments. We have lurkers and regular commenters alike participating. THIS IS SO EXCITING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's get to point here...Weigh in time, y'all!

This week I lost 5 lbs. which means that I am 15 lbs. away from my 20 lb. goal!

Monday through Friday, I got all five workouts in and ate really well. As far as diet, I have changed my plan. I decided to not do the 4 Day Diet because my husband wasn't really on board, and it is much easier if we are both doing the same thing. We both decided to go with counting calories. This weekend I went out of town and my eating and drinking was not exactly the best, but that should be the last giant splurge like that for awhile.

I am using the Lose It! app on my iPhone which is pretty awesome! All you have to do is put in your weight, height and how much you would like to lose and the app tells you your calorie budget. It has a library of foods and you can also add your own. One of my favorite things about the app is the graph that tracks your weight loss. It is neat to watch the line start slanting downward each week.

Even though I am not doing the 4 Day Diet, the book has some great tasting, low calorie recipes. I will share one of them with you now that I plan on making this week:

Spiced Tex-Mex Vegetarian Chili

2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
1 red onion, diced
1/2 red bell pepper, seeded and diced
1/2 yellow bell pepper, seeded and diced
1/2 green bell pepper, seeded and diced
4 cloves of garlic, minced
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp cumin
1 tbsp paprika
6 oz. each of canned beans, drained: black beans, kidney beans, pinto beans
14 oz. tomato sauce
14 oz. stewed tomatoes
1 cinnamon stick
1/2 zucchini, diced
1/2 yellow squash, diced
6 oz. can of yellow corn, drained
2 tbsp cilantro, minced
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced

Heat olive oil in a pot over medium heat. Add onions, peppers, garlic, salt and pepper, chili powder, cumin and paprika. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, until vegetables soften.

Add the canned black, kidney and pinto beans, tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes and cinnamon stick. Simmer uncovered for 30 minutes.

Add the zucchini, yellow squash and corn. Simmer 5 minutes more. Finish with cilantro and jalapenos.

  1. Week one down, hooray! I've revised my workout plan a little bit too: I originally thought I'd do three workouts a week, but after seeing Jana's comment about MyFitnessPal, I've become a devotee! Once I wrapped my head around the very complicated concept that I can EARN CALORIES BACK JUST BY WORKING OUT! AND THEN EAT MORE!, that has become incentive enough for me! I ended up doing some kind of workout every day this week, yay.

(If anyone wants to be friends on MFP, my screen name is Herbivoraceous--find me!)

I'm liking the Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred a lot; it wasn't actually as evil as I expected (nothing is worse than Tae Bo, NOTHING). I don't have full confidence in my scale so I will rely more on measurements (especially my waistline) and report on those as time goes by.

Excited to hear how everyone did!

  2. I lost 4lbs pounds this week for a grand total of 7lbs! I'm still 13 away from my first goal, but I'm feeling good.

Nightmare mentioned the Lose It! app, but I wanted to recommend the My Fitness Pal free app. It's a calorie counter that has a very compreshensive list of foods. You can add your own, of course. It also has weigh-ins and fun graphs. Very highly recommended A+++++++++.

I ordered my wedding dress online last week in a size 6 (street size, not weird wedding dress size). I'm currently a 10, so that's some serious motivation. I got the dress already and took a "before" picture in it. If I punk out on this, WHICH I WON'T, the dress was only $200. I'm determined to be the anti-bridezilla, right down to the inexpensive, simple dress.

  6. I had some shit come up that ended up with me failing on the eating healthier towards the end of the week. But workout-wise I'm still doing good! I even ran stairs for 30 minutes and went in a sauna afterwards, which I now think is just about the coolest thing ever

  7. I'm down 2.5 lbs. good. I didn't exercise much though. Luckily I live in the city and have no car so I ride my bike and walk a lot, but still that isn't an excuse.

@shell: that dress is beautiful and I think you are going to look stunning in it!

  8. I lost 4.2 pounds in the past ten days, or so my Wii Fit tells me. I'm not totally convinced that it's accurate, but I can tell that I've lost weight, so there's that.

I'm continuing to avoid dairy, sugar, flour, and processed foods, although I allow myself an ocassional indulgence. I'm working out more, using the Wii Fit (which is lots of fun) and going to the gym. I feel great and everyone tells me how good I look, so that's nice.

  9. I lost 3 lbs, and I can do three pullups in a row now, which is one more than I could do a week ago. Approximately 17 lbs and 7 pullups to go!

I keep a huge glass of water next to my computer and sip at it all day, refilling as needed, and it's making me less hungry and just generally more refreshed.
